Draft Project Implementation Report (PIR) with Integrated Environmental Assessment for Sandy Point Bend Shallow Water Habitat (SWH) in Harrison County, Iowa May 2010 In accordance with the recommendations of the USFWS found in the RPA of the 2003 BiOp Amendment, the Corps is proposing to restore SWH at the Sandy Point Bend. This PIR focuses on a potential chute project located at Sandy Point Bend, between Missouri River Miles 656 to 658 on Iowa ground on the Nebraska side of the river in Harrison County, Iowa.
Emergent Sandbar Habitat Complexes in the Missouri River, Nebraska and South Dakota Draft Project Implementation Report (PIR) With Integrated Environmental Assessment April 2010 The draft Project Information Report (PIR) and Environmental Assessment (EA) of Emergent Sandbar Habitat (ESH) projects to be constructed in 2010 is available for public review. Please provide comments by May 25, 2010. Instructions on providing comments are inside the cover page.
Status and Trend of Cottonwood Forests Along the Missouri River March 2010 Summary of findings for eight study segments in terms of current (2006) and historic (1892, 1950s) land cover, the absolute and relative area of different age classes of cottonwood stands, and analysis of vegetation (trees, shrubs, herbs) data collected within each age class of cottonwood, disturbed cottonwood, and non-cottonwood stands sampled in 2007-2009.
Draft Cottonwood Management Plan/ Programmatic Environmental Assessment February 2010 The document discusses the proposed management techniques for the Cottonwood Management Plan (CMP). It also discusses the environmental consequences to the physical, natural, cultural, and human resources along the Missouri River as a result of the implementation of the CMP. Written comments on the CMP/EA may be submitted to: Suzie Boltz, EA Engineering, 15 Loveton Circle, Sparks, MD 21152. Please send comments by May 23, 2010.
Value Engineering Report: Missouri River Recovery Program - Emergent Sandbar Habitat July 2009 The purpose of the VE study is to identify potential viable alternatives to improve the overall performance and cost of creating ESH while focusing on concepts that will assist the Corps in meeting its objective to create sufficient habitat to ensure that fledge ratios and adult population goals for both bird species identified in the 2000 Biological Opinion (as amended in 2003).
Value Engineering Report: Lower Yellowstone River Irrigation Dam, Fish Protection and Passage June 2009 This report focuses on the assessment of alternatives for meeting Federal project objectives examining current plans and programs to seek out alternative approaches and ideas that will improve the overall performance of the project.
2009 Nebraska Game and Parks Commission Broodstock Collection April 2009 Report of the second intensive effort targeted towards sampling pallid sturgeon in reproductive condition in the upper channelized Missouri River.
Endangered Pallid Sturgeon Captured in Platte River April 2009 A hatchery-reared pallid sturgeon recently captured by biologists in the Platte River may result in researchers rethinking what they know about the endangered fish. University of Nebraska-Lincoln researchers, part of the Upper Basin Pallid Sturgeon Recovery Workgroup, discovered the fish near Leshara, Nebraska, on March 31, 2009.
Fish Community Monitoring and Habitat Assessment of Off-Channel Mitigation Sites - 2009 Report April 2009 Fish community monitoring and habitat assessment of off-channel mitigation took place between April 2006 and October 2008. Sixteen sites selected for monitoring (in Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, and Missouri) covered a range of aquatic habitats, including backwaters and secondary channels with varying levels of engineering and development. The objective was to determine biological performance and functionality of chutes and backwaters and to compare them in an effort to identify designs most beneficial to native Missouri River fish species.
Value Engineering Study: Cottonwood Forest Program April 2009 This report documents the results of a value engineering study on the project: Cottonwood Conservation and Reforestation. The team developed recommendations and comments to provide added overall value to the success of this ongoing project.
Pallid Sturgeon Habitat Assessment and Monitoring Program 2008 Annual Report March 2009 Annual report of HAMP activities to characterize habitat use of the Missouri River by pallid sturgeon and other target fish species and to evaluate their response to U.S. Army Corps of Engineers habitat creations efforts in an adaptive management framework.
Value Engineering Report: Missouri River Recovery Program Mitigation Project Including Shallow Water Habitat March 2009 This Value Engineering Study focuses on the assessment of the Missouri River Recovery Program Habitat Creation Project with specific focus on the creation of shallow water habitats, examining current plans and programs to seek out alternative approaches and ideas that will improve the overall performance of the program.
Monitoring the Fish Community on an Engineered Backwater of the Missouri River: Interim Report February 2009 The fish community of the newly created Gunderson Backwater habitat near Vermillion, SD was monitored by a South Dakota Game, Fish, and Parks crew of biologists during the open-water period of 2008. Monthly fish community sampling was conducted April - November 2008. Bag seines, modified fyke nets, mini modified fyke nets, gill nets, and electrofishing were utilized. A total of 191 gear deployments were completed in the 2008 season, producing a total catch 38 species of fish and 3 species of turtles.
Upper Basin Pallid Sturgeon Survival Estimation Project: Final Report February 2009 Report estimates the probability that a hatchery-reared pallid sturgeon released into the Upper Basin will survive to various ages of interest and looks at current sampling designs and how they may be improved.
Biological Monitoring and Assessment of Lower Decatur Bend Section 1135 Revetment Lowering Ecosystem Restoration Project December 2008 Physical and biological monitoring at Lower Decatur Bend was conducted to assess shallow water habitat created by the revetment lowering. The report covers fish and turtle species caught and physical site changes.
